Tremendous achievement at the Hugh Lane, Dublin, last night. Excellent work, excellently installed. Downstairs there’s new work by Yinka Shonibare, the Nigerian artist now living in London. He has an arresting take on a Jonathan Swift satire on imperialism. To one side, there are three pieces by Grace Weir. The magical dandelion is particularly enchanting.

Upstairs in both the old and new spaces there is Frequency, a group show by Mark Garry, Padraig Timoney and Hayley Tomkins. Very engaging, very well paced, a major overall undertaking. The show-stopper is probably Garry’s coloured-thread installation. It’s looks gorgeous, and the brain cannot compute what is going on.

Delighted to have seen it all.
